The hurling club held a very successful social in the Mountshannon Hotel on Saturday January 24th. This night held a joint purpose, the presentation of medals to the Junior B league winners from 2014 and a commemoration of the Intermediate league and championship winners of 1984. The guest of honour on the night was Anthony Daly.

The junior team last season suffered only one defeat which was unfortunately in the championship final and stopped short in allowing the team a perfect season. This team were undefeated throughout the league stages and overcame Wolfe Tones in the final which was a very competitive. The team was captained by Terence Fahy and managed by Padraig Hynes, Kenneth Doyle and Johnny O Brien. The team were introduced by their manager Padraig Hynes to receive their medals from Anthony Daly.

The second presentation on the night was made to honour the achievements of the Intermediate team of 1984. This panel of players lost only one game during the campaigns of 1984 it being the centenary cup final. They were victorious in the league and Championship. The captain of this team was Michael Madden and it was managed by Michael Doyle, Pake Minogue and Billy Hickey. We were very fortunate on the night to have so many of the team present with John Kennedy and Michael Kelly returning from New York and London respectively. Prior to the presentation we were fortunate to hear a recording of a song written by the late Sean Donnellan which celebrated the victory over St Josephs in the Championship final. This team were introduced by Kenneth Doyle who had interesting insights to the players. The team and management were presented with mementoes of sculpted limestone.  Anthony Daly was on hand to present these also.

Following the presentations there was opportunities for all those that had gathered for the presentation to reminisce. The entertainment for the night was by Sean and John Hogan and DJ Donnacha. A word of thanks to Pauline, Dara and John and the staff of the hotel for a lovely meal.
